Ruth J. Simmons

Simmons was appointed to the Board of Directors of Chrysler Group LLC in June 2012. Simmons, President of Brown University since 2001, stepped down from that post on June 30, 2012 and remains with the university as President Emerita.

Prior to joining Brown University, she was President of Smith College, where she started the first engineering program at a U.S. women’s college.

Simmons serves on several boards, including those of Princeton University and Texas Instruments.

Simmons is a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans (1967), and received her Ph.D. in Romance languages and literatures from Harvard University (1973). Simmons is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Simmons was appointed to the Board of Directors of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. on 12 October 2014.
